The foundation is the place where completed sequences of cards of the same suit are removed from play. The tableau is the main area where the game is played.Main Areasįree Spider Solitaire has specific areas, each having its unique role and purpose. Spider Solitaire has its own peculiarities, so before you start playing it online you should get familiar with the rules. The name Spider is thought to have been derived from the eight legs of a spider, corresponding to the eight foundation piles the player aims to build. This digital version introduced Spider Solitaire to millions of computer users worldwide, solidifying its status as one of the most popular Solitaire games. Online Spider Solitaire surged in popularity during the late 1990s, following its inclusion in the Microsoft Windows operating system. While the exact beginnings of Spider Solitaire are not entirely known, it's generally thought to have originated in the early 1900s. On our platform, you can play Spider Solitaire for free with no download required. Spider Solitaire is distinctive for its requirement to manage multiple card sequences simultaneously, making it more challenging and mentally stimulating than many other card games. The objective is to create descending sequences of cards within the tableau, moving them to form eight complete sequences from the King to the Ace, which are then automatically removed to the foundation. Unlike other Solitaire games, it involves dealing with ten tableau columns. Spider Solitaire, a distinct version of classic Solitaire games, is played online using two regular decks, totaling 104 cards. Depending on the variation (such as 2 Suits or 4 Suits), these sequences need to be in the same suit. Spider Solitaire is won when all cards are removed from the tableau in complete sequences from King to Ace. Each column must have a minimum of one card in it before new cards can be dealt from the stockpile. When needed, these cards are dealt onto each of the ten columns, adding a new card to the top of each column. The remaining 50 cards form the stockpile, which comes into play when no further moves are available. This strategic element allows for more maneuvering options within the game. If a column in the tableau is emptied, it becomes a space where any card or sequence can be placed.Complete or partial sequences can also be moved as a unit to continue or create new sequences. Cards may be positioned atop another card with a greater rank. ![]() Players can move cards between columns to build sequences. The main objective is to create complete descending sequences of cards according to suit, ranging from Kings to Aces. Spider Solitaire utilizes two complete sets of standard 52-card decks, comprising a total of 104 cards for the game. ![]() Two of its b-sides, "Invocation" and "Hungry," received low budget music videos. The link between negative thought patterns and depression is not surprising to anyone who has struggled with depression. The Connection Between Negative Thought Patterns and Depression They can also be projected onto other people and the world around you, such as believing everyone is lying, blaming a person or institution for your personal problems, or obsessing over a partner’s feelings towards you. Cognitive distortions are not always self-deprecating, however. By recognizing and coping with the issue when the negative thought pattern is first beginning, you have a better chance of disrupting this pattern before it spirals into a larger mental health crisis.Ĭommon cognitive distortions include thinking yourself unworthy of love or success, believing everyone hates you, blaming yourself for your parents’ divorce, and other self-destructive beliefs. Learning to identify cognitive distortions can help someone break free of them. This, in turn, can cause or exacerbate mental health issues such as depression and anxiety. More specifically, the term refers to insecure, self-destructive, or nihilistic thinking that leads people to hold harmful false beliefs about themselves and their place in the world. ![]() In the simplest terms, cognitive distortions are errors in thinking. The term “distortion” is used because these negative thoughts lead to untrue and unrealistic conclusions or even distortions of reality itself. When harmful patterns of thought occur repeatedly, this meets the definition of a cognitive distortion. Cognitive Distortion: When Negative Thinking Forms a Larger Pattern Whatever the true root of our negative thought patterns, we can all take steps to empower ourselves to overcome them and break free of their influence. The primary driver of a negative thought pattern will vary greatly depending on the person engaged in the negative thinking, their particular history, their triggers, and their current mental health situation. What is the main cause of negative thinking? There is no single main cause that we can point to, as negative thinking arises from a complex web of dynamic factors. ![]() It is perhaps no wonder we can be so fixated on the negative things around us. Even modern human history is in many ways a tale of violence and terror. Our evolutionary makeup is based on a need to fight and survive. Our culture and media often glorify struggle and conflict. There are many theories as to why human beings sometimes seem so hyper-focused on the negative aspects of existence. Someone experiencing mental health struggles can be led into a depressive spiral of negative thoughts by any number of possible triggers-from unhelpful advice to minor relationship issues-and those negative thoughts can take on a variety of different forms. Yet, the effects of this thinking can be all too real for someone struggling with their mental health.īreaking the cycle of negative thought patterns requires learning how to cope effectively with the feelings and triggers that lead to negative thinking. ![]() Negative thought patterns, or cognitive distortions, can manifest as incorrect assumptions, unrealistic self-criticisms, and even the denial of reality itself. In the 17th and 18th centuries the plague doctors invented masks to protect themselves from “bad air” and prevent contagion. Nostradamus was a reference to stop the Black Death pandemic. The most famous plague doctor was Nostradamus, who gave advice such as removing infected corpses, get some fresh air, drink clean water, drink a juice made with rose hips, and do not bleed the patient. To treat the sick they did bloodletting, leeches and toads were used every day, but this was not effective. They cared for the sick, got rid of the corpses, did autopsies, and they had a listing on the public register of deaths caused by the plague. Given the risk of this task, was very difficult to find people prepared to do the work, many of them died and others fled. When there were not enough doctors, people from other professions were hired to assist the infected. These doctors were hired by the villages, and they took care of citizens of all social classes, rich and poor. To stop the pandemic was born the plague doctor, who were doctors specializing in care for those infected by this disease. The pandemic of bubonic plague was so huge that the whole society changed, ending the days of the Middle Ages and giving rise to the Renaissance. The primary means of spread of the plague were flea bites, which were hidden in clothing and textiles. The Black Death was born from an evolution of the bacterium Yersinia Pestis, which had its own pandemic in the year 500, known as the Plague of Justinian. In the beginning it was thought that the Jewish community were the cause of this new disease, so many civilians began Jewish pogroms. The economy practically disappeared and social chaos was present. Entire villages were deserted when all its inhabitants died. Fishing and commercial boats remained directionless with all the dead crew. In sieges infected corpses were thrown into the city with catapults. The fourteenth century had devastating moments because of the plague. In January 2018, I worked on the case of Pedro Sanchez. #1: ResidentsĮvery neighborhood has a person who seemingly never sleeps and knows everything that happens on the street. Following are six key confidential sources for law enforcement operations. Now, make a plan to engage those residents, business owners and the folks who travel those roadways. Once those areas are identified, take a step back and make note of every residence, business and roadway with a view of that location. It could be the intersection that is known for drug sales, the wooded area where stolen cars are stripped and burned, the local “trap house” or the convenience store that is robbed on a regular basis. In this article, I encourage you to pinpoint the locations in your AOR that are most likely to be a “scene of the crime” in the future. In a previous article, I encouraged you to pinpoint locations that could be potential terrorist targets. Since patrol officers typically do not have the time, resources or authorization to recruit confidential informants and conduct undercover operations, this article will discuss the recruitment of sources in the community. As you evaluate your area of responsibility for future crime scenes, be sure to include retailers that sell products used to manufacture illicit drugs and explosives. Instead of cutting straight to the chase in the “just the facts ma’am” style, they learn to see the big picture and strive to create a network of reliable sources in their area of responsibility (AOR). When an officer adopts this mindset, their interactions change. I recognized every complainant, witness and suspect as a potential source of information. I quickly discovered my perspective had changed drastically. Unfortunately, patrol officers are not typically trained to elicit intelligence even though they regularly have opportunities to recruit informants and sources.Īfter serving as a detective in a narcotics unit years ago, I returned to the patrol division. This includes techniques for enlisting informants, determining their motivation, protecting their identities, remuneration and validating their information. Police detectives, state investigators and federal agents receive training in informant management. The term “informant” will refer to individuals who are facing criminal charges and are willing to cooperate for a reduction in sentence. For our purposes, the term “source” will be used to describe a person who is not necessarily involved in crime but has access to information or a distinct vantage point that allows them to obtain useful intelligence. ![]() Whether called “confidential human sources,” “assets” or some other colorful term, confidential informants are vital to preventing and solving crimes. It matters less the year we were born and the year we die….that is a given for each of us on earth, rather what matter most is what do we do with our “dash”? Are we truly LIVING? If today is our last day on earth, would we be happy with the decisions we made today on how to LIVE our life? If tomorrow never comes, would we live our life in regret for the things we didn’t have the courage to do today? Mid-way, this poem was read, and tears filled my eyes…… She truly LIVED each day she had on Earth. She traveled to Europe, she cherished her time with her family at their home up north (a Michigan thing…if you’re from MI you get it….if not, just know it’s commonly referred to anywhere north of Flint- not necessarily and often not the Upper Peninsula), relished preparing for and spending the Jewish holidays with her family and friends, and had a great reverence for the medical “team” she had amassed from near and far, all enabling her to have one more day here with the people she loved. ![]() She went to her knitting group, book club, and cancer support group weekly or as scheduled, rarely missing a session. I received so much more than I ever gave. My answer, consistently has been this……it was/is the most rewarding work I’ve ever done. Wasn’t it depressing? Wasn’t it awful to have to go to so many funerals? (I’m guessing I’ve personally known at least 100 who’ve died, may be more? I can’t be for certain….) So many times I was asked why I worked with people with cancer. Yet, this strong, wise, loving, and beautifully flawed group of cancer survivors welcomed me into their group as a student intern and allowed me to learn from them what it was like to live with uncertainty, yet fully LIVE each day! I was a young mom, an even younger social worker, so many aspects of my life were uncertain and so much of what I was doing I felt I was inept. I met them at the time when I had just had my first-born, my Dad was acutely sick with his cancer and recovering from his first (and preparing for his second, though I didn’t know it at the time) bone marrow transplant. ![]() Now, I wasn’t a child when I met them, but in some ways I feel like I was. Yesterday, I was surrounded by this group of men and women I’ve really had the pleasure to grow up with over the past 16 years. Today, I want to write about the “dash”….Have you heard of it? So why do we live as if our moments are infinite, when in fact, other than taxes death is the only certainty we face on this earth.īut the “dying” and “loss” and “grief” part isn’t what I want to write about today. That statement sits somehow uncomfortably with me because it presumes the rest of us who aren’t diagnosed get a pass from the certainty of death, when in reality, none of us knows when our last breath will come on this earth. Working with people with cancer, the possibility of someone dying is omnipresent. Over the course of the 16 years I’ve been working for or volunteering for Gilda’s Club, I’ve lost count of how many funerals I’ve attended. ![]() As a result, you must be precise with your comms while playing Clove.
